Last week, Prime Minister Liz Truss announced the energy bill cap would not surpass £2,500 for a household with typical usage but people could end up paying more if they use a lot of energy.

It’s going to be a tough winter for most Britons, especially the older generation who tend to be on lower incomes with less wriggle room when it comes to making savings.

Pensioners also tend to feel the cold more because circulation decreases due to the walls of blood vessels naturally losing their elasticity.

Former Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced pensioners will get an extra £300 payment this winter to help them keep warm but they will have to wait until November – however they could receive other payments sooner.
