Trudeau visited a mosque on Friday in the Etobicoke area of Toronto for an event but was booed by attendees for not backing Palestine.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau received harsh criticism from a section of Toronto’s Muslim community when he visited a mosque over his response to the Israel-Hamas conflict. The interactions went viral on social media sites where a section of the crowd is seen booing the Canadian Prime Minister for backing Israel.

A separate report by the Toronto Sun said that Trudeau visited a mosque on Friday in the Etobicoke area of Toronto. His office later confirmed that the Canadian leader visited the International Muslims Organization of Toronto to extend support for those affected in the Muslim community by the events in West Asia.

Several social media users posted the video on X (formerly Twitter) where some people are heard chanting “shame on you” and urging an organiser to not let Trudeau speak at the podium. The Canadian Prime Minister addresses those gathered and thanks them for allowing him to pray alongside them.

In the video, a separate set of protesters are also seen outside the mosque urging Trudeau to advocate for a ceasefire in the conflict as he was departing.

“Everyone is hurt and hurting; everyone is grieving; everyone is scared of what this means,” Trudeau was quoted as saying by Canadian news outlets during his visit to Brampton, Ontario when asked how his party will respond to the developments in West Asia.

Canadian news outlet The Toronto Sun said that Trudeau is facing pressure from Toronto-area Liberal MP Salma Zahid – the chair of the Canada-Palestine Parliamentary Friendship Group who has called for an immediate ceasefire, help facilitate the opening of a humanitarian corridor and stand up for international law. Her petition has gained the support of 23 backbench Liberal MPs, eight NDP MPs, and both Green Party MPs.

“International law is clear that innocent civilians and all those not taking part in the fighting must on no account be attacked and must be spared and protected,” the letter said.

The Western world is divided on how to respond to the war between Israel and Hamas which has led to widespread loss of lives on both sides following a brutal terrorist attack led by the terrorist group.
