Britons have £184 on average to see them through from Boxing Day to January payday, working out at just £5.26 a day, according to new research from eBay UK. To top up their January budget, eBay is encouraging people to declutter and sell unused items online after Opinium found the average household believes they could make £477 by selling items they no longer need.
Almost half (47 percent) of people are worried about money as 2023 approaches, with 66 percent stating they are unprepared due to the energy bills increase and 64 percent due to the rising cost of food shopping.
Emma Grant, Head of Pre-Loved at eBay UK said: “Over the past few months, many of us have had to turn down plans or put them on hold due to the increasing cost of living making us reconsider where we spend.
“Which is why we’re launching the ReSELLution in January – a movement designed to get the nation decluttering and making some extra cash post-Christmas. At eBay we’re on a mission to help you save money, but also keep items in circulation and ultimately support your lifestyle as we kick off a new year.”
Alternatively, shoppers can also choose to donate a percentage of earnings to one of the 13,000 charities registered on eBay.
Meanwhile, Express.co.uk has researched 23 money making tips for 2023 with one claiming people can earn up to £10,000 for 10 minutes work.
From renting out a room to uploading pictures of derelict properties, the good news is there are many ways people can top up their income in the year ahead.
